Ukraine attaches great importance to energy support from Azerbaijan, particularly, in the form of supplies of oil, oil products and gas. Azerbaijan has become one of the first countries to send generators and other electric equipment to Ukraine after Russia launched missile strikes on its energy infrastructure, Ukrainian political scientist, military expert Alexander Kovalenko told Report.
"In 2020, the issue was raised about the prospects for the supply of Azerbaijani energy resources to Ukraine using the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP) and the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB) as they are put into operation. It was assumed that this route would allow delivering Azerbaijani gas through Bulgaria and Romania to Ukraine. I hope that this project will be implemented after the end of the war," he said.
According to Kovalenko, bilateral relations between Ukraine and Azerbaijan have always been friendly and tended to further deepen cooperation in many areas.
"The trade turnover between Ukraine and Azerbaijan has been steadily growing, and in 2021 it exceeded $1 billion. At the same time, a forecast was made that this figure could reach $2 billion in the next 2-3 years. That is, in terms of growth to become the highest over the years of cooperation. However, because of the war, these forecasts were not destined to come true," the political scientist noted.
