Expert: Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Pakistan meeting underscores strategic partnership

The recent trilateral meeting between Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan underscores a burgeoning strategic partnership, Pakistani foreign affairs expert Aimen Jamil told Report.

“Leveraging their geographically advantageous positions, these nations can forge deeper cooperation in critical areas like trade routes, energy infrastructure development, joint military exercises, and cultural exchange programs, ultimately fostering greater regional stability and prosperity,” she said.

Speaking about Azerbaijan's desire to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Jamil noted that full membership is a complex process.

“Dialogue partner status fosters economic ties with SCO members like China and Russia. Increased economic cooperation within the SCO could benefit trade along the Middle Corridor, a shared area of interest for Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan,” said the expert on foreign affairs.

Jamil noted that Pakistan's positive view of Azerbaijan's SCO involvement stems from its potential to strengthen regional connectivity and economic development opportunities: “This aligns with Pakistan's own trade goals, particularly regarding the Middle Corridor, where cooperation with Azerbaijan, a key player on this route, is crucial for its success.”
