Exhibition dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day opens in Baku

Baku. 23 January. REPORT.AZ/ ADA University in Baku has opened exhibition under the name “Beyond Duty: Diplomats Recognized as Righteous Among the Nations”.

Report informs, exposition is presented in the framework of events dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The exhibition of 29 posters tells about 10 diplomats who saved lives of Jews in various countries of the world.

The deputy head of the Israeli mission in Azerbaijan Avital Rosenberg said at the opening of the event that the people to whom the present exhibition is dedicated "did what they were supposed to, despite the fact that it was beyond their responsibilities”. According to her, in this connection, a memorial to 44 diplomats will be opened in Jerusalem, which saved innocent people.

National information Officer at UN Rashad Huseynov, in his turn noted that the Holocaust is a worldwide problem, which must be educated. “Diplomats risked their lives, career, to save lives, and their actions can be a perfect example for future diplomats," Huseynov said. Vice-rector of the ADA University Fariz Ismayilzade expressed hope that the exhibition will be instructive for students.

Since January 18, a number of events have been held in Baku under the slogan "Remembrance of the Holocaust and study: our common responsibility".

The main purpose of the event, held jointly by the UN Office in Azerbaijan and the Israeli Embassy in Baku, is to show the scale of the Holocaust and disseminate information so that future generations categorically reject any kind of racism, cruelty and anti-Semitism.
