EU project on support to pension reform launched in Azerbaijan

The opening ceremony of the European Union (EU) twinning project "Support to pension reform in Azerbaijan - Phase 2" was held in Baku.

Report informs that the event was attended by Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Sahil Babayev, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko, Deputy Minister for Social Security and Labor of Lithuania Martynas Siurkus, Ambassador of this country to Azerbaijan Egidijus Navikas and other officials.

Babayev stressed that relations between Azerbaijan and the EU are developing successfully. He noted that joint projects serve to increase the ministry's potential to carry out reforms in social protection, medical and social rehabilitation, insurance, pensions, and employment.

According to the minister, this project is an important support for ongoing reforms. He expressed confidence that the second phase of the project will also contribute to the improvement of the country's pension system based on the best European practices.

The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor of Lithuania.
