The EU is launching a EU4Climate regional project on combating climate change with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and other partners.
Report informs that Baku hosted the presentation of this project.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Azerbaijan Alessandro Fracassetti noted that the project involved all 6 countries of the Eastern Partnership program and aims to support the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to combat climate change and the country's fulfillment of the commitments assumed under the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
According to the head of the Sector for Cooperation in the Eastern Partnership countries, the EU Directorate General for European Neighborhood Policy and negotiations on the enlargement of the European Commission, Michael Rupp, the project will open up new opportunities for countries to combat climate change.
"The project will be implemented within 4 years, the total amount of funding will be 8.8 million euros. About 830,000 euro has been allocated to Azerbaijan as part of the project, ” he said. According to Rupp, it is important for Azerbaijan to make its own adjustments to this project and adapt it for the region. EU intends to help Azerbaijan with the improvement of legislation in this direction.
According to Simon Gatti, Counselor of the EU Delegation in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan and the EU should soon sign a comprehensive agreement, under which cooperation between the parties will deepen in all areas, particularly in the fight against climate change.
