EU envoy: Azerbaijan is important participant in Eastern Partnership

The EU and Azerbaijan plan to strengthen cooperation in a number of areas, the newly appointed head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Peter Michalko, told journalists, Report informs.

“As an ambassador of the European Union in Azerbaijan, I will work intensively for enhancement of our relationship, of our cooperation. We have bilateral cooperation that is already very strong, we will be working for its further strengthening,” the ambassador said.

“There are instruments that we want to use in fullness, to have this strong partnership and we will also work for the advancement of cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership where Azerbaijan is participating and is an important partner in this regard,” he noted.

“So, we have a number of possibilities and perspectives that we would want to enhance, like the new agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan, but also proceed in offering the EU support for important projects that may be taking place in Azerbaijan, for advancement of economic cooperation, innovations, environment, the fight against COVID, digital transformation that will give immense amount of economic opportunities for the future, for young people,” he added.

On October 6, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of the newly appointed head of the European Union Delegation in Azerbaijan, Peter Michalko.
