EU and Ministry of Justice award first mediators

The EU Delegation to Azerbaijan supported the first 49 mediators' certification, organized by the Ministry of Justice's Academy of Justice, Report says, citing EU Delegation to Azerbaijan.

The EU-funded Project "Strengthening the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan in introducing Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms and provision of legal aid services to the population" supports the development of mediation in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The mediators' initial training was conducted for 52 hours for each group between May and August 2020. 49 out of 60 people involved in the activity completed the training and passed the exam before the relevant commission.

The EU Ambassador Mr. Kestutis Jankauskas, and the Acting Rector of the Academy of Justice of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Elchin Khalafov, made speeches during the event and wished success to the future mediators in their activities. 

In the future, the EU is planning to support and finance 300 other candidates who have applied for the training. It also intends to promote mediation in all regions of the country and promote mediation in Azerbaijan.
