Envoy: Azerbaijan to send observer mission to elections in Kazakhstan

Azerbaijan will send a mission of observers to the presidential elections in Kazakhstan, Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Serzhan Abdikarimov told journalists at a press conference, Report informs.

“This will be the 7th presidential election in Kazakhstan. Six candidates with different political views are running for the presidency, two of whom are women. Kazakhstan has been working on gender equality for many years,” the ambassador said.

As many as 641 observers are expected to arrive at the elections, 109 of them from 35 foreign countries, including eight observers from Azerbaijan.

Parliamentary elections are expected in Kazakhstan next year. “The upcoming period is very important for Kazakhstan, so we hope for a high turnout for both the presidential and parliamentary elections,” the ambassador said.

President of Kazakhstan put forward four packages of political reforms, which include, among other things, lowering the registration barrier for parties from 20,000 to 5,000 people, introducing a 30 percent quota for women and youth in electoral party lists, restoring the constitutional court, alternative elections of mayors of regions and much more.
