Discussions at UN session to be held in video format

Although most member states' heads will not attend the opening of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly this year, they will take part in general political discussions and submit video appeals in advance. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will address the General Assembly, said his spokesman Stefan Dujarric.

The UN official said that the Secretary-General had returned from vacation and underwent a two-week quarantine under the current rules in New York, and now is working in the UN headquarters.

On September 9, Antonio Guterres will participate in the presentation of the World Meteorological Organization's annual report together with the head of the organization. A high-level meeting dedicated to the 75th anniversary will be held at the UN Headquarters on September 21, a Youth Forum on September 28, an event on financial support for development on September 29, and a summit on biodiversity on September 30.

Events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, adopted by the World Gender Conference on October 1 and the International Day for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons, are planned for the next day.
