Davyd Arakhamia: What happened in PACE is regrettable misunderstanding

What happened in the PACE is a regrettable misunderstanding, Davyd Arakhamia, head of the Servant of the People faction of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, said in a statement to Report.

He noted that at some moments it is important to act without emotions:

"We believe that the events taking place in PACE are a regrettable misunderstanding. Therefore, our Foreign Relations Committee took the initiative to address both the Azerbaijani side and PACE. I don't want to talk about the details now. It seems to me that the appeal of our MP to both the Azerbaijani parliament and the PACE leadership should play its role because we understand what solidarity means in the current situation. When we see such things happening, we realize that unity is very important. Therefore, as a country at war, we want to appeal to both sides so that they sit down at the negotiating table and find a solution."

Arakhamia stressed that they want both sides to negotiate, reach a common understanding and return to the previous situation.

"Azerbaijan and its delegation in the PACE have been working very efficiently for many years and decades, sharing all the values of Europe, multiculturalism, democratic values and so on. Therefore, it seems to us that this misunderstanding is partly caused by the emotions of both parties. In other words, there is no such situation in the world that because of any small incident, the powers of the representative office in the institution will be affected."

The head of the faction added that today unity is a great value:

"Unfortunately, I am not a member of PACE. So I can't assess how that would affect values. I have visited Azerbaijan many times and I can talk about my experience with this country. Azerbaijan is a multicultural country. Different religions and nationalities are treated tolerantly here. I have walked the streets of Azerbaijan and talked with ordinary Azerbaijanis. I walked very comfortably. People feel very safe in this country. I believe that Azerbaijan is a country worthy of international recognition from all perspectives. I hope that the initiative we are showing now will help both Azerbaijan and the PACE leadership to find common points of contact, and this dialogue will lead to a positive result for all parties."
