El Pais, one of Colombia's leading media outlets, published an article headlined "Azerbaijan and Colombia strengthen ties" based on an interview with Azerbaijani Ambassador to Colombia Mammad Talibov.
Report informs, citing Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico, that on February 26, Azerbaijan commemorated the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, committed by the Armenian armed forces, who brutally killed more than 600 civilians.
After nearly 30 years, Azerbaijan has managed to liberate its lands occupied by Armenia, and this result was formalized in a tripartite statement dated November 9, 2020.
The article quotes the ambassador as saying that the liberated territories were destroyed by Armenia and are reminiscent of the situation after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Thus, Azerbaijan's historical and cultural heritage, as well as all residential infrastructure, were ruined, and Azerbaijan is currently working to restore it.
Our representative noted that Colombia is one of Azerbaijan's traditional partners in the Latin American region and expressed gratitude for Colombia's fair position on the conflict, which is very important for our nation.
