Colombian media writes about January 20 tragedy

Colombia's influential news portal El Expediente has published an article by columnist Roberto Trobajo entitled "Black January" dedicated to the January 20 tragedy, Report mentions, referring to Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico.

The article says that then leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, sent troops to the Azerbaijanis, who peacefully protested against the unjust position of the Soviet regime on Armenia's territorial claims against Azerbaijan and demanded the independence of their country. It also notes that a large number of Azerbaijani civilians, including women and children, were killed.

Citing a report by Human Rights Watch entitled "Black January in Azerbaijan", the author states that the disproportionate use of force by Soviet troops against civilian Azerbaijanis was a collective punishment and served as a warning to other Soviet republics.

In the end, despite all these atrocities, the Azerbaijani people have not given up their just struggle and achieved their independence.
