Carlyle Corbin: Polynesia still struggles with consequences of French colonial policies

Polynesia continues to struggle with the consequences of French colonial policy to this day, Carlyle Corbin, an international advisor from the US Virgin Islands, said at an international conference titled “Decolonization: Empowerment and Development of Women,” organized by the Baku Initiative Group, Report informs.

“The war with the French colonialists continued from 1844 to 1846. Then France annexed these islands and established its laws,” he said.

Corbin noted that the people of Polynesia were also greatly affected by French nuclear testing: “This continued for generations. The consequences affected both the people and the environment of Polynesia.”
