Permanent members of the UN Security Council use their veto power in their own interests and block decisions that are unfavorable to them, former Speaker of Türkiye's Grand National Assembly, Bulent Arinc, said speaking at the 12th Global Baku Forum.
He said that the world does not deserve to live under such difficult conditions.
"Today, we live in an era of real wars, and their scale has expanded to the point where entire regions are affected. Organizations established after World War II need to strengthen their activities. For example, the UN must have a real mechanism to prevent conflicts, but the veto power held by permanent Security Council members remains a serious problem," he emphasized.
Bulent Arinc also touched upon the former Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, noting that international organizations failed to contribute to its resolution:
"The OSCE Minsk Group was ineffective, which is why the Azerbaijani army liberated the occupied territories. Today, Baku states that the Minsk Group has lost its relevance, and I fully support this position," Arinc said.
