Islamophobia is a problem not only for Muslims, but also for non-muslim Europeans, director of the Academy for European Development and Research (Belgium) Brahim Laituss said at the international conference "Islamophobia as a specific form of racism and discrimination: new global and transnational challenges" in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, discrimination against Muslims also affects non-muslim Europeans, since security issues are very important for Europe.
Laituss emphasized that the lack of reliable information regarding Islam also plays a role: "When people enter the word Muslim or Islam in a search engine, different information appears on different sites, and therefore it is difficult to distinguish the truth from lies."
"Together with the European Commission, we are working to discuss a strategy for a holistic approach and solve this problem," he said.
