Borough president of Brooklyn signs Declaration on Victory Day of Azerbaijan

An event dedicated to Victory Day was held at the Brooklyn Borough Hall, Report informs.

Yashar Aliyev, the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, Reyhan Ozgur, the Consul General of Turkiye in New York, Salhat Abbasova, the head of the department for the United States, Great Britain and Israel of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora, diplomats, Antonio Reynoso, Borough President of Brooklyn, diaspora activists operating in various states and cities of the USA, representatives of the Turkish and Jewish communities and the local community participated in in the event held at the initiative of the Azerbaijani American Women's Association and the New York Cultural Center and with the support of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora.

The national anthems of both countries were played, and the memory of the martyrs who died for the Motherland was commemorated with a minute's silence at the event.

Yashar Aliyev, Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, congratulated all Azerbaijanis on Victory Day. The ambassador expressed his gratitude to the diaspora activists who demonstrated unity and solidarity in the righteous struggle of Azerbaijan during the Patriotic War.

He said that the brave Azerbaijani Army, under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, demonstrated its strength, will, and determination to the world in just 44 days. According to him, by restoring the state borders, the people of Azerbaijan achieved the greatest victory in the military and diplomatic field in the past 100 years. The ambassador talked about the revival of Karabakh, the restoration and reconstruction works in Shusha, and the other liberated territories.

"Azerbaijan has been a supporter of peace in all periods of history, and today it is making efforts to establish stability in the South Caucasus," he stressed.

Antonio Reynoso, Borough President of Brooklyn administrative district of New York City, congratulated all Azerbaijanis on the occasion of the historic Victory Day and said that Azerbaijanis living in New York play an active role in the socio-economic and cultural life of the city. Reynoso presented the Declaration he signed on Victory Day to the head of the Azerbaijani American Women's Association, Munavvar Vahabova, and the head of the New York Cultural Center, Telman Jalil.

The diaspora representatives talked about the history of Azerbaijan's victory and emphasized that the people of Azerbaijan, who went through severe trials in all periods of history, preserved their national identity and existence at the cost of their lives and showed unity even outside the borders of the homeland.

The event continued with a concert program. Musicians Rizvan Aliyev and Roya Aliyeva performed national songs, and dancers performed Azerbaijani dances. Within the framework of the event, an art exhibition created by students of the "My way" children and youth development center operating in New York was showcased.
