Boris Johnson congratulates Azerbaijan on successful hosting of COP29

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Azerbaijan on the successful hosting of the global climate conference COP29.

According to Report, in his video address to the participants of the 12th Global Baku Forum, he expressed gratitude to the esteemed president of COP29, Mukhtar Babayev, for his contribution as chair of the conference. He also thanked Azerbaijan for hosting such an impressive event.

Johnson reminded that he led the UK government when the country chaired COP26 in 2021. He recalled that as a result of that conference, the Glasgow Climate Pact was signed, which committed 90% of countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He also mentioned other important agreements signed at COP26, such as the global methane agreement.

In his speech, Johnson highlighted that significant progress had been made in global CO2 emission reductions following COP26. He noted that major players in the oil and gas industry, such as Azerbaijan's SOCAR, played a key role in these discussions. Johnson emphasized that, regardless of political views or the country represented, there were numerous opportunities to reduce emissions while increasing job creation and investment.

He also pointed out that the transition to green energy not only contributes to protecting the planet but also enhances energy security, which can help shield everyone from volatile energy prices. Johnson expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between his organization, Better Earth, SOCAR, and other international companies on emissions reduction.

He further mentioned that Better Earth works with governments and international companies to tackle the issue of emission reduction and benefit from the process. The organization is also focused on accelerating the adoption of clean fuels and on all projects aimed at ensuring clean air, which he believes everyone dreams of. Johnson concluded by stating that Better Earth is ready to do more and collaborate with any government or organization to find solutions for collective action.
