Within the framework of the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Simon Steele, Executive Director of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Report informs.
According to the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, issues arising from the Framework Convention on Climate Change, possible prospects for cooperation in the field of environmental protection, Azerbaijan's initiatives within the framework of the convention were discussed during the meeting.
Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan actively cooperates with a number of UN structures on the implementation of a number of state programs approved by Azerbaijan in the field of environmental protection and restoration.
Speaking about the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in this area towards the transition from traditional to alternative energy sources, Minister Jayhun Bayramov noted in particular that the memorandum of understanding signed last year between Azerbaijan and the European Union provides for cooperation in the production of renewable energy sources.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
