Azerbaijani, Russian FMs mull recent tensions in region

A telephone conversation took place between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Report informs referring to the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

During the conversation, the confrontation and tensions in the region were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his Russian colleague about the latest situation in the region resulting from the large-scale provocations of the Armenian armed forces, as well as about the steps taken by the Azerbaijani side to prevent aggression. It was emphasized that over the past month, Armenia has been regularly shelling the Azerbaijani positions, continuing to mine territories and, contrary to tripartite statements, hadn’t completely withdrawn Armenian armed units from the territories.

Sergey Lavrov pointed out the need to prevent confrontation in the region, as well as the importance of the full implementation of the tripartite statements signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation.

The parties exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
