Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with International Organization for Migration Director General Amy Pope during the World Leaders Climate Action Summit at COP29, Report informs referring to the press service of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.
The meeting discussed prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Organization for Migration in various areas, as well as partnership opportunities within Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information about our country's COP29 presidency, the negotiation process, and noted close cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies in assuming the presidency and preparing for the session. The significance of this choice made by Azerbaijan was emphasized in terms of coordinating efforts to combat climate change and ensuring sustainability.
It was noted that Azerbaijan, as a country affected by climate change, had long before the COP29 presidency placed environmental protection issues at the center of its national development strategy, and intends to contribute to global efforts in this direction during its current presidency. Director General Amy Pope congratulated Azerbaijan on assuming the COP29 presidency and wished success.
It was noted that considering the migration of large numbers of people due to climate change, the Organization's main focus is on adapting these people and supporting the elimination of damage caused to them. In this context, the importance of the Azerbaijani presidency's priority on climate financing to address such issues was emphasized.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other matters of mutual interest.
