Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev has called on Armenia to share all available information, including the burial sites of missing persons, Report informs.
Rzayev made the announcement during an international conference on missing persons held in Baku on October 2, Report informs.
According to him, as a country that has been grappling with the issue of missing persons for over 30 years, Azerbaijan well understands the importance of addressing matters that can bring lasting peace. "International resolutions emphasize the solution of the missing persons issue as part of the peace and peace-building process. It is crucial to include humanitarian elements in peace negotiations," Rzayev stated.
The deputy minister noted that since the liberation of its territories following the Patriotic War, Azerbaijan has discovered 18 mass graves in a short period. He emphasized that the remains found in these graves were buried in inhumane conditions.
Rzayev underlined that the Azerbaijani government is taking necessary steps to clarify the fate of missing persons:
"The unknown fate of missing persons can be an obstacle to reconciliation and lasting peace. Our approach to peace in our region has never been built on revenge. Azerbaijan even returned up to 2,000 corpses to Armenia despite the high risk of the landmine explosion," the Deputy Foreign Minister added.
