Azerbaijani and German FMs hold political consultations

The next round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Germany was held in Baku, Report informs citing the Foreign Ministry.

The delegations were headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov from Azerbaijani side, and Special Representative of the Federal Government of Germany for East Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, Michael Zibert from Germany.

During the consultations, the sides analyzed the current state of relations between the two countries and exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation. The parties expressed their satisfaction with the high level of political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Germany and in this regard highly assessed the visit of the German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel to Azerbaijan last August.

The sides notes the rich potential of bilateral economic cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the activities of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan.

The parties also discussed relations in the fields of culture, science and education, praised the activities of the DAAD and Höte Center in Baku, as well as noted that opening of the Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Berlin would promote bilateral humanitarian ties.

The sides exchanged views on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Khalafov highly appreciated Germany's support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty and its position that does not recognize the separatist regime in the occupied territories and also thanked for the support and efforts to the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Moreover, the sides exchanged views on the reforms that are conducted in Azerbaijan in political, legal and economic spheres as well as other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
