Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ukraine has not yet returned to Kyiv

The situation in Ukraine is very difficult, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Elmira Akhundova told reporters in Baku, according to Report.

"I have not been there for several months, I was called to Baku. If they consider it necessary, I will return to Ukraine," she said.

According to her, many Azerbaijani citizens are still in Ukraine: "I regularly keep in touch with the parents of young people, and I advise them to refrain from traveling to Ukraine."

The ambassador noted that only Azerbaijanis who are citizens of this country can take part in hostilities in Ukraine: "Azerbaijani legislation does not provide for the participation of citizens of the country in armed conflicts on the territory of other states. These persons are considered mercenaries."

Akhundova noted that the situation is slightly better in Kyiv, since the Ukrainian army can repel most attacks with air defense systems: "People in Kyiv live as if there was no war at all. It reminds me of the First Karabakh war."
