Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received a delegation led by Jacob Mudenda, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing the Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on prospects for developing political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Zimbabwe, expanding interparliamentary cooperation, and opportunities for cooperation in education, tourism, mining, agriculture, the application of the ASAN Service model in public service delivery, and other areas of mutual interest.
Bayramov emphasized the importance Azerbaijan attaches to developing relations with African countries, saying mutual visits and parliamentary diplomacy make an important contribution to strengthening bilateral ties. In this context, the sides noted the importance of continuing mutual support and cooperation within international organizations.
The parties also highlighted the importance of initiatives promoted during Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as the outcomes achieved at COP29, in advancing the interests of developing countries.
Bayramov congratulated Zimbabwe on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028 and said Azerbaijan is ready to work closely with Zimbabwe during this responsible period. The sides stressed the importance of cooperation within the UN and other multilateral platforms, as well as joint efforts to promote the norms and principles of international law.
The parties also discussed cooperation within the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Bayramov briefed the Zimbabwean delegation in detail on the regional situation, the former conflict and the current peace agenda, as well as restoration and reconstruction work in Azerbaijan's liberated territories.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
