Steps are being taken once again in the region towards a policy of militarization and the creation of tension hotbeds, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, told reporters in Kalbajar, Report informs.
Hajiyev emphasized that a new geopolitical situation and status quo have emerged in the region as a result of Azerbaijan's policies. "This new status quo is based on legitimacy, the rule of law, norms, and principles of international law, and justice. The status quo created by Azerbaijan is a process established by ending the 30-year Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territories and completely transforming the region," he stated.
Hajiyev pointed out that there are forces outside the region that are trying to pursue policies based on geopolitical intrigues instead of supporting this agenda. "Armenia, in particular, is pursuing a policy of militarization," he added.
The official underlined that it's not just France, but other states are also involved in this.
"These are steps that will have a completely opposite effect," he warned. Azerbaijan continues to support the peace agenda in the region in every way possible and maintains its position that Armenia has been an occupying and aggressive state.
Hajiyev emphasized the need for a verification mechanism on Armenia's militarization policy in order to fully establish an environment of trust in the region. "The states participating in Armenia's militarization process must understand their responsibilities," he concluded.
