Azerbaijan discloses 5 basic principles for normalizing relations with Armenia

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about Azerbaijan’s peacekeeping efforts at the post-conflict stage during Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Report informs, citing the ministry.

It was noted that, despite the steps taken by Azerbaijan to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, statements at the highest level about Baku’s readiness to sign a peace treaty with Armenia, no response was given by Armenia over the past period. A few days ago, Azerbaijan submitted a proposal to Armenia on the basic principles for establishing relations between the two states. It reflects the following five basic principles for the normalization of relations between the two states:

- Mutual recognition by states of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of their international borders and political independence of each other;

- Mutual confirmation of the absence of territorial claims of states to each other and the adoption of a legal obligation that such a claim will not be brought in the future;

- Refrain from threatening each other’s security in interstate relations, use of threats and force against political independence and territorial integrity, as well as other circumstances that do not comply with the purposes of the UN Charter;

- Delimitation and demarcation of the state border, establishment of diplomatic relations;

- Opening transport and communications, building other relevant communications and establishing cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.

According to the Foreign Ministry, it is on these basic principles that the two states can conclude a bilateral peace agreement after intensive, substantive and result-oriented negotiations.
