Azerbaijan and UNEP discuss environmental cooperation

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, who is on a visit to Baku.

According to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, cited by Report, the sides exchanged views on cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNEP, environmental protection, climate action, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.

Bayramov briefed Andersen on Azerbaijan's contribution to the global climate agenda, the outcomes achieved during COP29, as well as the country's initiatives related to green energy transition and environmental protection.

Andersen highly praised Azerbaijan's role in advancing the international climate agenda and promoting environmental cooperation.

The discussions also focused on climate finance, sustainable cities, waste management, water resource protection, and biodiversity conservation. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding joint projects between UNEP and Azerbaijan.

The participants further highlighted the significance of Azerbaijan"s hosting of World Environment Day activities in 2026 and reviewed potential areas for future cooperation within that framework.
