Azerbaijan and Latvia hold third meeting of Strategic Dialogue

The third meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between Azerbaijan and Latvia was held in Riga, Report informs, citing the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Azerbaijan.

At the meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fariz Rzayev, and the Latvian delegation was led by the Under-Secretary of State at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Political Director Andzejs Vilumsons.

The meeting discussed the strategic partnership based on traditional friendship and mutual trust between the two countries and the possibilities of its strengthening, as well as the current state and development prospects of cooperation in the political, economic, transport and humanitarian spheres.

The importance of continuing high-level mutual visits and holding more meetings of the Strategic Dialogue and the Intergovernmental Commission was emphasized.

Issues of mutual interest on the international agenda and topics of expanding cooperation in multilateral formats were also the focus of discussions.

The Latvian side was informed about the preparations for the COP29 to be held in Azerbaijan in November 2024.

During the meeting, the regional situation was also discussed. The Latvian side was informed about the steps taken by Azerbaijan towards establishing lasting peace in the region. They also exchanged views on the landmine problem in Azerbaijan's liberated territories, the restoration and construction work carried out there, and the possibilities of cooperation with Latvia in this regard.

During the visit, Rzayev also met with other Latvian officials, and spoke at an event held with representatives of think tanks.
