President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Erdogan recently had a telephone conversation about the situation in Syria, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, said, Report informs.
Hajiyev mentioned that President Ilham Aliyev extended his congratulations to the Syrian people in his speech:
"With the collapse of the Assad regime, Azerbaijan hopes for the establishment of peace and security in Syria. We look forward to fostering friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Syria and enhancing bilateral ties. The former regime in Syria posed significant challenges for Azerbaijan in many international organizations by consistently taking a stand against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. Syrian representatives even made statements within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that went against the principle of Islamic Solidarity," he noted.
The official highlighted that Azerbaijan and its brotherly nation Türkiye are working together on consultations and addressing issues related to the humanitarian situation in Syria:
"During a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his willingness to help resolve the humanitarian issues arising from the situation in Syria."
