Another US city issues proclamation on Khojaly genocide

Another city in the US state of Florida, Sunny Isles Beach, issued a proclamation on the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

The statement, signed by Mayor George Scholl, states that more than 600 innocent people, including women and children, were killed in the massacre targeting civilians by Armenian forces on the night of February 25-26, 1992.

According to Human Rights Watch, the Khojaly genocide is an enormous war crime in the region. The document said that 20 American states recognized the Khojaly massacre. Mayor George Scholl declared February 26, 2021, the 29th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide in Sunny Isles Beach, as the Khojaly events heralded horrific losses and highlighted the importance of better understanding and tolerance among people around the world.

The document was presented to Esmira Bayramova, head of the Florida-Azerbaijan Society. At present, members of the Azerbaijani community living in many cities and states of the United States are conducting an information campaign about the Khojaly massacre.
