Another nine refugees to have higher education in Azerbaijan under the DAFI program

“We are grateful to the government of Azerbaijan for allowing refugee children from other countries to obtain primary and secondary education in local schools," Representative of UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan Guido Ambroso said.

Report informs that he spoke at the ceremony of awarding 9 academic scholarships under the DAFI program for refugees from third countries.

"The promotion of human development is one of the priorities of the Agency.In this regard, we contribute to the access of refugees to quality education. The DAFI program has been operating in Azerbaijan since 2010. So far, 36 scholarships have been presented under this program. We are grateful to the government of Azerbaijan for providing opportunities for refugee children from other countries to receive primary and secondary education in local schools," Ambroso said.

In turn, German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig noted that his country is always happy to promote such humanitarian steps.

Scholarship program of the Foundation named after Albert Einstein (DAFI) was established in 1992, funded by the German Federal Ministry of foreign Affairs and private donors.

The goal of the program is to help young talented refugees get professional education, develop their leadership skills and improve the well – being of their families. The program is designed to train specialists in the educational profile "bachelor" with a period of up to 4 years. The program is open for those who are just entering educational institutions and for those who are already studying.

Notably, this year 9 refugees will receive scholarships for education in Azerbaijan under the DAFI program: 6 from Chechnya,1 from Afghanistan, 1 from Yemen, 1 from Iran.
