Ambassador to Russia: Cooperation with BRICS meets Azerbaijan's interests

Strengthening cooperation with BRICS serves Azerbaijan's national interests, Azerbaijan's ambassador to Moscow, Rahman Mustafayev, said in an interview with the Tatarstan-24 TV channel, Report informs.

The diplomat emphasized that this interaction "organically fits" into Baku's consistent course towards forming a fair world order and creating equal development opportunities for all states.

"On one hand, Azerbaijan advocates for increasing the authority of the UN, its role and effectiveness as a universal organization designed to play a central coordinating role in international relations. On the other hand, it shares the ideology of a multipolar world, forming a world order free from double standards and excluding the creation of dividing lines. In this context, cooperation with such an influential organization as BRICS is of particular importance. After all, BRICS represents almost 35% of the Earth's land area, 45% of the world's population, 30% of global GDP, over 40% of global oil production, and 70% of the world's reserves of rare earth minerals, which are the basis of the industrial revolution," noted Mustafayev.

He also emphasized that BRICS is oriented towards the global South - a region where Azerbaijan traditionally plays an important and often initiative role.

"All these examples show that Azerbaijan's policy harmoniously fits into the ideology and practice of BRICS in supporting the principles of multipolarity and increasing the role of developing countries in world politics and economics. Baku's interest in intensifying cooperation with BRICS is a natural continuation of its strategy of a balanced approach to world politics and international cooperation. This is especially true at the current stage of international relations when, as President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated during his speech in the parliament on September 23, the security architecture formed after World War II has been practically completely destroyed," Rahman Mustafayev added.
