On August 26, the Ambassador of Mexico, Rodrigo Labardini, visited Shamkir region.
Labardini discussed met with the Chief of the Executive Power of the region, Alimpasha Mammadov, in order to establish and develop cooperation ties.
First, the Mayor presented general information on the history and population of the region, as well as relevant industrial areas. The Mayor also addressed the tourism potential of the region, that attracts local and foreign visitors.
Ambassador Labardini, for his part, reported on the development of ties in various areas of bilateral cooperation. He stressed tourism, as one of the relevant sectors of the collaboration. In this context, he noted that in the period of 2017-2018 the number of Mexican tourists in Azerbaijan increased by 8.93%, and the number of Azerbaijani tourists in Mexico grew by almost 20%. He added that Azerbaijani tourists choose Mexico City and Cancun as their main destinations.
Both parties considered important to consolidate interregional ties. They talked about possible twinning between the Shamkir region and a Mexican city with similar profile and characteristics.
Within the visit, Ambassador Labardini visited the German church, the Museum of History of the Region, the AgroPark Shamkir and a wine production plant.
