Ambassador Hayee: Government and people of Pakistan highly value Azerbaijan's assistance

Islamabad is happy that Azerbaijan in the donor's conference and announced its pledge which is greatly valued by the Government and people of Pakistan, Pakistan ambassador to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee said, commenting on the results of the international conference "Climate Resilient Pakistan", the purpose of which was to attract the necessary financial resources to support the aftermath of the natural disaster that occurred in this country in August last year.

"We would like to acknowledge with immense thanks the announcement by the Government of Azerbaijan to provide additional USD 2 Million for Pakistan’s efforts of rehabilitation of the flood affected people in Pakistan," the ambassador said.

He reminded that the World Bank along with various international agencies made a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused by summer 2022 massive floods in Pakistan and concluded that Pakistan would need around USD 30 billion for recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

It was projected that half of this amount, around 15 billion USD would be required in the next 3 years. The Government of Pakistan undertook to finance 50% of the amount needed for rehabilitation and reconstruction in the flood affected areas.

"In order to generate resources for the remaining 50% amount, the Government of Pakistan together with the United Nations held a donor’s conference in Geneva on 9 January. We are grateful that international partners and friendly countries announced their pledges to support efforts of the Government of Pakistan in Geneva Conference," Bilal Hayee said.
