Akkan Suver: Heydar Aliyev made lot of efforts to resolve Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict

The national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, took important steps and efforts to resolve the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict, Akkan Suver, president of the Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation, said during the panel session “Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict and Heydar Aliyev” at the conference “Foreign policy priorities of national leader Heydar Aliyev,” Report informs.

Suver noted that Heydar Aliyev understood that a comprehensive approach is required to resolve the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, therefore he acted taking into account all important domestic and foreign political factors.

Suver added that at the moment, in order to normalize relations between the countries, it is necessary that Armenia act independently of Russia, France and Iran.

“Armenia’s allies, Russia and Iran, are trying to suppress the EU’s constructive efforts to resolve the conflict. This means that the disagreements between the two countries will continue. Washington also wants to become a new player in the region. But Armenia must understand that it must act independently,” he noted.

Suver stressed that the creation of alliances against Azerbaijan by Armenia undermines the peace process: “It is in the interests of Armenia to look for ways to achieve peace, because if it sits down at the negotiating table, we will all be able to solve many problems.”

The professor also noted the importance of creating the Zangazur Corridor.

“Another task for the normalization of relations is to ensure transport links between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, which will pass through Armenia. This is important for creating long-term peace in the region,” Suver said.
