412 Azerbaijani citizens repatriated from Syria, Iraq - OFFICIAL

A total of 412 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been repatriated, including 380 children and 32 women to date, the Deputy Head of the Working Group of the Azerbaijani State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Eldar Samadov, said, Report informs.

He said that despite the serious challenges to the implementation of the process since the refugee camps and prisons located in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, where the majority of Azerbaijanis are detained, are under the control of illegitimate organizations, including illegal armed groups, all possible options for solving the problem are considered by the relevant institutions, and relevant measures are underway toward using the assistance of partner countries with influence in the territories:

“As a result of the joint measures taken with the relevant state institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 61 people, including 48 children and 13 women from the Syrian Arab Republic, and 5 people from the Republic of Iraq, including 2 children and 3 women, were released and brought to our country in 2022. In general, 412 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been repatriated, including 380 children and 32 women. After the release of these persons, the process of their rehabilitation is carried out by the relevant state institutions. Currently, the activity in this direction is underway.”
