Real Madrid clinches championship in five seasons that began with draw

Real Madrid has a unique history in the Spanish national championship, having started the season with a draw 20 times. Remarkably, they went on to win the championship in five of those seasons.

According to Report, citing MisterChip, Real Madrid secured the title in the 1931/1932, 1985/1986, 1988/1989, 1996/1997, and 2006/2007 seasons, all of which began with a draw.

In the current La Liga season, Real Madrid drew 1:1 with Mallorca in their opening match.

In the 2023/2024 season, Real Madrid won the championship by a 10-point margin over their closest rival, Barcelona. The Royal Club holds the record for the most championships in Spanish La Liga, with 36 titles.
