Lionel Messi named MLS player of the Month for April

Inter Miami CF forward Lionel Messi was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Month for April 2024, Report informs via MLS Soccer.

Messi led MLS with 10 goal contributions (six goals, four assists) during the month of April, despite playing in just four matches.

Messi’s six goals were the most in MLS while leading an Inter Miami squad that finished the month with a 3-0-1 record and atop the Supporters’ Shield standings. Of Miami’s 12 goals in the month of April, Messi scored or assisted on 10 of those, which included the game-winning assist on April 20 and the game-winning goal on April 27. Miami currently holds a 6-2-3 record and leads MLS in points per game (1.91), goals scored (26), and goal differential (plus-10).

After scoring twice and adding an assist in Inter Miami’s 4-1 win over the New England Revolution on April 27, Messi became the first player in MLS history to record multiple goal contributions in five consecutive games.

Messi becomes the second Miami player to be named MLS Player of the Month after Luis Suárez earned the honor for February and March.

In his career, Messi has earned 10 Player of the Month honors for his club – eight with FC Barcelona, one with Paris Saint-Germain, and now one with Inter Miami CF.
