Baku. 11 September. REPORT.AZ/ We expected to win this match. We did our best but couldn’t win, Captain of the national team of Azerbaijan Kamran Aghayev said after the away match with Malta that ended in a 1:1 draw in the second leg of the UEFA Nations League.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper said that though the team ended the first two matches in draw, it still has a chance to stay in the group: "The match has not been analyzed yet. The game will be viewed, the head coach will comment on it. Nothing has been lost yet. I hope we’ll win in the next matches. I would not say that we have no chance, but we cannot lose a single point anymore. We must win if we want to achieve anything."
Aghayev also commented on Maltese footballers’ effort to extend the time in the second half: "This is the same in all types of sports. Weak team does so. The problem was with us. May be we did not fulfill the tasks in the proper way."
In D league, Azerbaijan ranks third with 2 points, while Kosovo is first with 4 points, Faroe Islands are second with 3 points and Malta is 4th with 1 point.
