A scandal broke out at the International Media Cup among sports journalists dedicated to the memory of famous football commentator, Kote Makharadze, in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi.
The Moldovan national team had professional players play for it at a decisive group game with the team of the Azerbaijani Federation of Sports Journalists (AFSJ), Report informs.
It was possible to find out one of their names. He is midfielder Sergei Orsul, who plays for the Tiras mini-football team. The 37-year-old footballer plays in the so-called Dniestr mini-football league.
Although the AFSJ leadership protested, the organizers asked not to escalate the scandal. They apologized for what happened and said they would not invite Moldova to the next tournament.
Due to this, Azerbaijan came third in the group and lost the chance to fight for medals. However, the AFSJ would be satisfied with a draw in the game with Moldova.
It should be noted that the AFSJ lost to Ukraine’s Kyiv 2:4 and Moldova 2:5 in Group B and won the match against Lithuania - 3:1. As a result, Ukraine’s Kyiv became the group leader, and Moldova reached the semifinals as the second in the group. Azerbaijan played against Ukraine’s Odessa in the match for 5th place.
