Atletico Madrid sign Argentina defender Cristian Romero

Spanish club Atletico Madrid have signed Argentina international Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Madrid-based club.

The 28-year-old defender has moved to Atletico after five seasons with Tottenham.

Romero joined Tottenham in 2021 and became the club's captain in 2025. He helped Spurs win the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League and was named Player of the Season in the competition.

Romero was also part of Argentina's squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
