Yusuf Majidi: Transparency and coordination essential in hydropower projects

Hydropower projects, while offering significant benefits, can also create social, environmental, and regional challenges, Tajikistan's First Deputy Finance Minister Yusuf Majidi said during panel discussions at the 51st Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Group in Baku.

According to Report, Majidi said such issues must be addressed in a transparent and responsible manner.

He stressed that safeguards and stakeholder engagement are key elements in the implementation of hydropower projects. According to Majidi, effective coordination among government agencies, regulators, financiers, and international partners is also crucial.

The Tajik official added that the reliability of an energy system depends not only on generating capacity, but also on infrastructure, grid stability, and energy distribution rules.

"Large hydropower projects should be viewed as a strategic platform for national development, regional cooperation, and clean energy security," he said.
