World Bank: Pandemic caused delays in projects on Azerbaijan

“There have been delays in some projects of the World Bank related to Azerbaijan because of the safety first, restrictions on travel to the region,” the World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan Sarah Michael told Report.

According to her, some of the staff couldn’t travel: “We want to make sure that social distance and etcetera have been followed. But actually, I have to compliment the project staff for World Bank finance projects who have been innovative in finding different ways to move forward. A lot of activities have continued to move. We hope that the international borders open again. International expert visits that have been planned can go ahead. There have been some delays with materials that were coming into the country from outside. There have not been so significant and we estimated all of the projects. We have been able to use digital modalities to move forward. It has been a challenge but I have to compliment the project teams. They have adapted very well. There are no risks to the portfolio of the projects still performing very well.”
