Türkiye's central bank may raise interest rates this week

Türkiye's central bank may raise interest rates on Thursday, Report informs citing Hürriyet newspaper.

"Central Bank Monetary Policy Committee will meet on Thursday. Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkal will chair the meeting for the first time. There are speculations on markets, with some talking about raising the interest rate from 8% to 20%, and others about 25%. This is the manipulation to destroy the credibility of the new administration," the article says.

The regulator has not been raising the interest rate for a long time, leaving it unchanged, now it is at the level of 8.5%.

The depreciation of the Turkish lira against foreign currencies has been going on for three weeks. The dollar to lira exchange rate is 23.63 lira per dollar on Monday morning.
