Russia at the beginning of the year increased its investments in US government securities, Report informs citing Kommersant.
In January 2022 they rose to $4.503 billion, according to the US Treasury Department.
The share of long-term bonds was $2 million, the share of short-term bonds was $4.501 billion.
Japan ($1.303 trillion), China ($1.06 trillion) and the UK ($608.8 billion) remain in the top three largest holders of US government securities. Fourth place belongs to Luxembourg ($310 billion), fifth - to Ireland ($308 billion).
Russian investments in US government bonds peaked at $176.3 billion in October 2010. In April 2018, after another round of sanctions, Russia began withdrawing reserves from US government bonds. By March 2020, Russian investments reached a minimum of $3.9 billion.
