Kazakh banks get US permission for transactions through Russia's Mir system

Banks of Kazakhstan received permission from the US Treasury to carry out transactions with Mir payment cards, the press service of the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of Kazakhstan said, Report informs via TASS.

"On December 8, 2022, regulators received a letter from the Office of Foreign Assets Control, a division of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC), in which the US department explained that it does not object to the use of bank cards of the Mir system by private individuals, namely citizens who migrated from Russia to Kazakhstan, to carry out operations that ensure their vital activity," the message says.

However, these operations will be under strict control to prevent the use of indulgences to circumvent anti-Russian sanctions.

Earlier, the US Treasury imposed sanctions against the National Payment Card System, which acts as the operator of the Mir system, and threatened with sanctions to all foreign credit organizations that would help Russia avoid sanctions.
