How pandemic and war in Ukraine shaped Azerbaijani investments in Ukraine

Azerbaijan's foreign direct investments (FDI) in Ukraine stood at $6.021 million in 2024, Report informs, citing the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

While this figure represents a decline compared to 2023, it shows a remarkable 74.5% growth from 2022.

In 2023, Azerbaijani investments surged dramatically to $23.644 million, a 33-fold increase compared to 2022. The stark contrast in 2022 was caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine, with Azerbaijani investments plummeting to just $715,000—a 95.97% decrease from the previous year.

In 2021, Azerbaijani investments in Ukraine reached $17.259 million, more than doubling the previous year. Even amidst the pandemic, in 2020, Azerbaijan’s investments rose by 2.43 times, totaling $8.567 million—an increase of $5.05 million from 2019.

As for Ukrainian investments in Azerbaijan, in 2020 they amounted to $5.957 million, representing an explosive increase of 20.76 times compared to 2019. However, data on Ukrainian investments in Azerbaijan from 2021 to 2024 is currently unavailable in the CBA's statistics.
