Euro falls slightly against dollar ahead of ECB meeting

The euro on February 2 afternoon fell slightly against the dollar ahead of the decision of the European Central Bank (ECB) on the discount rate, Report informs referring to the auction data.

The euro against the dollar fell to $1.0985 from the last close of $1.0989.

The dollar against the yen at the same time fell to 128.90 yen from 128.93 yen. The dollar index (the exchange rate against a basket of currencies of six US trading partners) fell by 0.01% to 101.23 points.

The attention of currency investors on February 2 is focused on the upcoming meeting of the ECB. Analysts believe that the regulator will raise the discount rate by 0.5 percentage points to 3% per annum.

In addition, the British Central Bank will present the results of its meeting. It is expected that it will also raise the rate by the same amount - up to 4% per annum.
