BSE: Necessary to develop financial instruments related to ESG

It is necessary to develop financial instruments related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards at the next stage, Product Owner of the Green Finance Department of the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) CJSC Aygun Hasanova said during Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.

According to her, green bonds are already widely used in the world and remain the most practical instrument, as they are directly linked to the financing of specific environmental projects. At the same time, ESG instruments will allow expanding the range of companies participating in such projects.

Hasanova noted that at the next stage, instruments may emerge for financing initiatives that are not directly related to green projects but provide measurable improvements in achieving sustainable development goals.

She also called carbon markets a long-term opportunity. According to her, their development requires reliable measurement methodologies, reporting and verification standards, as well as registries capable of ensuring investor trust.

"The main question is to have instruments that will truly attract investor interest, increase real demand from issuers, and ultimately lead to reliable projects that have a real, measurable impact on our sustainable development goals," the exchange representative added.
