Azerbaijan's Finance Minister attends high-level climate finance meetings in Washington

Azerbaijan's Minister of Finance, Samir Sharifov, along with a delegation led by COP29 President-Designate, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, participated in several high-level events and meetings dedicated to climate finance issues. The meetings took place during the annual gathering of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., United States.

At an event organized by Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, and Brazil at the IMF on October 22, Sharifov emphasized the importance of adopting a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance by the end of this year. He stressed that the NCQG should meet the needs of developing countries in combating climate change.

Sharifov called on G20 finance ministers to take joint steps on the NCQG and noted the necessity of increasing the resource base of multilateral development banks for climate financing.

The finance minister also participated in a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors from the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.
